Bring optical extensometry to your existing test machine

In a tensile test, strain measurement needs to be accurate and repeatable. Traditional clip-on extensometers are widely used, but attaching and removing them takes time. They may also influence delicate specimens, slip during testing, or need to be removed before specimen failure.

Fortunately, upgrading to optical extensometry does not require a new tensile testing machine. The Imetrum Vector system can be integrated with a wide range of existing universal testing machines, including systems from many different manufacturers, subject to compatibility.

Vector tracks specimen markings optically and measures strain in real time without contact. For suitable applications, it can replace a clip-on extensometer, reducing handling and avoiding contact with delicate specimens.

Upgrade from clip-on to optical extensometry

Vector is designed to integrate with existing universal testing machines, so you can upgrade strain measurement without replacing the test frame. It can be connected to a wide range of testing systems through standard communication interfaces. Benelux Scientific can check the compatibility of your machine and setup.

Non-contact measurement reduces the need to attach and remove an extensometer, helping to minimise operator-related errors and improve measurement consistency. It is particularly beneficial for delicate specimens and applications where contact-based measurement is challenging.

Choose the Vector model for your test

The range includes the uniaxial U70 and U200 and biaxial B80. Model selection depends on gauge length, specimen and test method. Depending on model and configuration, Vector is designed to meet ISO 9513 Class 0.5 and ASTM E83 Class B-1.

Frequently asked questions

What is a non-contact extensometer?

It measures specimen strain optically, without attaching a sensor to the specimen.

Can the Vector be used with an existing universal testing machine?

It can be integrated with many existing machines. Compatibility depends on the machine and interface.

Which Vector model should I choose?

The U70, U200 and B80 serve different measurement needs. Model selection depends on the specimen, gauge length and test method.
